2017 Pre-registration for the UTMR Ultramarathons

This is the information for you to complete your pre-registration for the 2017 UTMR 116km Ultra and 170 km Ultra Tour.

Please read carefully and then complete the pre-registration form linked at the bottom of this page.

Registration Information

These are tough and challenging long distance races on high alpine trails. We want you to have fun and enjoy your journey so we need to check that you do have sufficient experience to cope with the demands of the terrain and to look after yourself under all possible conditions.

Selection will be made on a first come first served basis, subject to having the necessary experience (see below). The organisation will reserve a few wild card places to be allocated at its discretion.

Required experience

116km Ultra
  • completion of running race in mountain terrain of a distance of at least 100km AND requiring at least six hours of night running during 2014, 2015 or 2016.

OR

  • completion of the UTMR stage race AND completion of a running race in mountain terrain requiring at least six hours of night running during 2014, 2015 or 2016.
170km Ultra Tour

Completion of one of the following races in 2014, 2015 or 2016

OR

Completion of the 2016 UTMR Ultra (116km)

AND

  • mountain experience such that you can convince us you can cope with the demands of the terrain and look after yourself under all possible conditions and still have some fun 

If you don’t have a finish at one of these races but you think you can convince us you have sufficient experience then please add your reasons in the pre-registration form.

REGISTRATION COST

116km Ultra

Registration Fee: 234 euros

The registration fee includes:

  • Transfer of baggage (one bag of 70 litres / 15kg only) from Cervinia to Grächen
  • 1 participant gift
  • 1 start number and race chip (official timekeeping)
  • GPS tracking
  • Checkpoints offering refreshment (excellent food and drink)
  • Transfer of one drop bag per runner to the checkpoints in Alagna and Macugnaga
  • Finisher’s gift (for official finishers)
  • Post race celebration meal in Grächen
170km Ultra Tour

Registration Fee: 296 euros

The registration fee includes:

  • 1 participant gift
  • 1 start number and race chip (official timekeeping)
  • GPS tracking
  • Checkpoints offering refreshment (excellent food and drink)
  • Transfer of one drop bag per runner to the checkpoints in Zermatt, Alagna and Macugnaga
  • Finisher’s gift (for official finishers)
  • Post race celebration meal in Grächen

Race registration and equipment check

116km Ultra

Race registration will take place in Cervinia on Thursday 7th September 2017 between 1430 and 1930 hrs. This is mandatory.

Your race number and timing chip will be given to you on:

  • presentation of photographic ID (passport, identity card)
  • check of obligatory kit
170km Ultra Tour

Race registration will take place in Grächen on Wednesday 6th September 2017 between 1430 and 1930 hrs. This is mandatory.

Your race number and timing chip will be given to you on:

  • presentation of photographic ID (passport, identity card)
  • check of obligatory kit

Extras

Race cup

There will be no cups provided at refreshment points. A personal cup will therefore be part of the obligatory kit.

A special edition Ultra Tour Monte Rosa foldable cup will be available for purchase at registration in Cervinia if you don’t already have your own.

 

Transport

We arrange buses to bring people from Milan & Geneva airports, and also to return people from Grächen to Cervinia for a reasonable charge. If you wish to buy a place on a bus, please check the travel page.

Detailed, finalised information about the race will be available by 1st August

Your insurance

Each race participant must have personal accident insurance sufficient to cover the cost of search and evacuation in Italy and Switzerland. The insurance policy must be valid at least for the duration of the race.

N.B. Helicopter evacuations in Italy and Switzerland are not free of charge. The choice of evacuation will depend exclusively on the organisation which will prioritize the participant’s security.

It is advised that you also take out a normal travel insurance to cover cancellation of accommodation / shuttle etc.

Cancellation

For cancellation:

  • before 1st May – 50% refund (excluding charges) or deferral to 2018 (excluding charges).
  • between 1st May and 1st July – 25% refund (excluding charges).
  • after 1st July no refund is possible.

No exchange of race number is possible.

Your medical form

To validate your registration you must supply a medical certificate by 1st July. The medical certificate can be downloaded here.
